Hiring an SEO Expert in Qatar Instead of an Agency

The usual agency arrangement in this region is that a director sells the work and somebody junior delivers it. You meet the experienced person once, at the pitch, and then correspond with an account manager who relays your questions to somebody you never meet.

A consultant is the other arrangement. One named person scopes the work, does the work, and answers for it. That is what Rankly is, and this page is about whether it suits you, including the cases where it does not.

The numbers

What you actually get, against an agency

Consultant Agency
Who does the work The person you spoke to Usually someone else
Escalation path One person Account manager, then director
Capacity Limited, and it fills Scales with hiring
Breadth Deep in one thing Wide, variable depth
Continuity Ends if they are unavailable Survives staff changes
Cost of overhead Almost none Office, management, sales team

Both columns have real advantages. The agency column is genuinely better if you need six channels running at once, or if your procurement process requires a company with staff, not a person. The consultant column is better if depth in one discipline matters more than breadth, and if you would rather pay for work than for an office.

What it covers

What a week actually contains

Agency pages rarely describe this, so here is the honest version of where the hours go.

  • Mondays through Wednesdays are production

Writing, technical implementation, fixing what an audit found, building the pages and profiles that produce results. This is the majority of the week and it is the part that is easiest to quietly skip when an agency is under-resourced.
  • One day is analysis and reporting

Looking at what moved, what did not, and why. Checking Search Console for problems nobody reported. This is also where the honest conversations come from, because a flat month is visible here before a client notices it.
  • The remainder is client contact and scoping

Calls, messages, audits for people who are not yet clients, and specifying work precisely enough for somebody else's developer to implement.
  • Thursday afternoons are usually kept clear

for the things that come in late before the Qatar weekend.

The first ninety days. Month one is setup-heavy and looks quiet, which is when most of the compounding work happens.

The consequence worth stating: this is a fixed number of hours. Taking on a tenth client means less time for the other nine, which is why capacity is real in place of a sales line.

The rates

Option QAR
Consulting 900 per hour
SEO audit, technical and content and local 4,500
Ecommerce SEO audit 7,500
Site migration plan and oversight 11,000 to 25,000
Monthly retainer 2,900 to 9,900

Consulting has no minimum and no retainer attached. Plenty of people buy one hour to settle an internal argument, check a plan before committing budget, or get a second opinion on a proposal from somebody else. That is a good use of it.

Every figure across every service is on the pricing page, including the 5% withholding gross-up that applies to cross-border invoices in Qatar.

When a consultant is the wrong choice

Directly, because getting this wrong wastes your money.

  • You need a full delivery team

If the work is search, paid, social, creative and development all running simultaneously from month one, that is an agency. A consultant with subcontracted partners can cover it, but slower, and if speed across all five matters more than depth in one, choose the agency.
  • You need Arabic content now

Arabic copy is not written here. If your buyers are Qatari nationals, or the work is government-adjacent, that is a reason to hire a bilingual consultant rather than to work around it.
  • You need a Qatar commercial registration

Government tenders and most semi-government work require one. There is not one here.
  • Your procurement requires a local entity or in-person meetings

Gulf B2B frequently closes over coffee. That is a legitimate way to buy and this is not set up for it.
  • You want somebody to blame

A department absorbs blame in a way one person cannot. Some organisations genuinely need that and should buy accordingly.

Which channel the situation actually calls for. Sometimes the answer is ads before search, and sometimes it is neither yet.

What ten years buys that a junior does not have

Not certifications. Google's are free and the paid ones prove you paid.

It buys knowing which technical warnings actually suppress rankings and which ones are noise in a tool that somebody could waste a fortnight on. It buys a realistic sense of how long a category takes before a client's budget is committed to it. Most usefully, it buys the ability to say that a category is too thin to support a retainer, which is a conclusion a junior on a target will not reach.

What that judgement looks like in practice is on the case studies page: thirteen projects with the Ahrefs panel behind each one, the period it covers, and the reasoning that produced the decision. Two of them did not work and are written up the same way, which is the more useful half to read.

Questions

Questions we get asked

Are you available for a one-off review?

Yes. An hour at QAR 900 with no retainer attached, and most reviews take one or two. If an hour genuinely will not cover it you get told before it is booked rather than afterwards.

What happens if you are unavailable?

This is the real weakness of hiring a person, not a company and it deserves a straight answer. Retainer work would pause, and you would be told immediately rather than discovering it through silence. Everything lives in your own accounts, so nothing is stranded and another provider could pick it up without a handover fight.

How many clients do you take?

A handful at a time. When the roster is closed you are told so, with an indication of when it next opens, rather than being fitted in at reduced attention.

Can you train our in-house person instead?

Yes, and for some businesses that is the better spend. A few consulting hours plus a written roadmap frequently gets further than a retainer when there is already somebody internally who can implement.

Do you work with agencies as a subcontractor?

Occasionally, on search specifically. Rankly does not white-label as a general practice, partly because the Qatar agency-reseller market is thin and partly because accountability is the product.

Will you tell me if I do not need you?

Yes, and it happens regularly. The most common version is a business whose category has almost no search volume in Qatar, where the honest recommendation is paid social or a Google Business Profile clean-up in place of a retainer.

Ask the question

Send your website and the question you actually want answered. If it is a quick one you get a straight answer at no charge. If it needs an hour, that gets said plainly with the number attached.

If an hour genuinely will not cover it, you get told before it is booked rather than afterwards.
