Choosing an SEO Agency in Qatar Without Guessing
This page names no competitors and does not argue that you should hire Rankly. Choosing an SEO agency in Qatar is difficult for one reason: the buyer usually cannot evaluate the product before paying for it, and every provider knows that.
The questions below close some of that gap. Use them on anybody, including on this site.
The seven questions that separate providers
Ask all seven. What matters is less the answer than whether it arrives directly, and a fair amount of what follows will point you elsewhere.
Who does the work, by name, and how many other clients do they carry?
The most useful question available. The common arrangement is that an experienced person sells and a junior delivers. Ask to speak to whoever will actually be in the account. A good answer gives you a name and a number. What arrives each month, as countable items?
Not "content creation and optimisation". How many pages, how many articles, how many links, how many hours. A provider who cannot count it has not planned it.What will the report contain, and will it say when a month was flat?
Ask for a sample with the client's details removed. A report where every month is good news is a sales document. What happens to the work if I leave?
The content, the profile, the tracking and the account access should be yours already. Ask specifically whether the website, the Google Business Profile and the analytics properties are registered in your company's name. This one catches a surprising number of arrangements. What would make you tell me not to hire you?
Anybody without an answer has either not thought about it or will take any client with a budget. How long before I see something, and what exactly?
A real answer separates profile movement in weeks from competitive organic terms in months. A single blended timeline is a warning. What is excluded?
Every engagement has limits, and the honest ones tell you in writing before you sign.
Red flags
A ranking guarantee
Nobody controls search results. The trick works because the guaranteed keyword is one nobody searches, so ask which keyword, then check its volume yourself. Anyone guaranteeing position one is lying to you.A twelve-month lock-in
Common here, and it protects the agency against its own underperformance. Thirty days' notice is enough for any provider confident in the work.No named delivery person
Not knowing who does the work means buying a process instead of a person.Reporting that never mentions enquiries
Impressions, positions and domain authority are inputs. Calls, forms and bookings are outcomes. A report carrying no outcome is measuring the wrong thing deliberately. No price until a meeting
Occasionally fair for genuinely complex scopes. Often it means the number will depend on what they think you can pay.Hundreds of links a month
The Qatar link market cannot supply that honestly. Those are network placements, and somebody will charge you later to remove them.Pressure to sign before month end
Nothing in search is urgent to a sales quarter.
What SEO should actually cost here
Price proves nothing on its own, but a number far outside these bands deserves a question.
| Monthly spend, QAR | What it usually buys |
|---|---|
| Under 1,500 | A report, some posting, rarely enough hours to move anything |
| 1,500 to 3,000 | Genuine work on one location and one service area |
| 3,000 to 7,000 | Multi-service or competitive SME categories |
| 7,000 and above | Ecommerce, property, multi-branch, or a real link programme |
Below roughly QAR 2,000 a month, ask how many hours that buys at what rate. The arithmetic rarely survives the question. Above QAR 7,000, ask what the extra buys that the tier below does not, in countable items.
Raise the tax line too. On a cross-border service invoice, Qatar law makes you hold back 5% and hand it to the General Tax Authority, due by the 16th of the month that follows. A provider who has never raised this has either not invoiced across a border, or is about to surprise you.
How the pricing models differ
| Model | What it means | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | Fixed fee, defined deliverables | Whether the deliverables are countable |
| Hourly | You buy time | Estimates that drift, and no reason to be efficient |
| Project | Fixed scope, fixed fee | What counts as out of scope |
| Percentage of ad spend | Paid media only | The agency earns more by spending more of your money |
| Performance or pay-on-ranking | Fee tied to positions | The chosen keywords, almost always |
For ongoing search, a retainer with countable deliverables is the cleanest arrangement. For paid media, a flat management fee removes the conflict a percentage creates.
Performance pricing reads well and rarely is. The provider picks the targets, so they pick terms they can already win, and you pay a premium for rankings you would have reached anyway.
What to get in writing before you start
- Deliverable counts, month by month
- The name of the person doing the work
- Notice period, and what happens to every asset on exit
- What is excluded
- Whether the accounts are registered in your company's name
- Reporting frequency, and what each report contains
- How the withholding tax is handled, and which figure the provider receives
None of this is unusual to ask for, and a reasonable provider has it ready.
Ten minutes of checking you can do yourself
Two checks, free, before you reply to the proposal.
Search the agency's own commercial terms in Qatar. Not ranking is not disqualifying, since client work comes first, but ask about it and weigh the answer.
Then take a client they name and check whether that client ranks for anything commercial. Branded terms do not count. Look for the category terms a stranger would type.
Where Rankly sits, and where it does not
Since this page sits on Rankly's site, the honest version.
The model: prices published in QAR, thirty days' notice, one named senior person doing the work, countable deliverables, reporting built around enquiries rather than impressions, and thirteen documented case studies that include two which did not work.
Where it does not suit you: if you need Arabic copy written, which requires a native writer and is not a hire made here. If your buying process requires people in the room. If you need a Qatar commercial registration for government or semi-government work. If you want six channels running at full pace from month one, where an agency with staff will simply be faster. If you want a department to absorb blame, which one person cannot.
Those are real reasons to choose somebody else, and a page claiming to suit everybody would fail its own test above.
Questions we get asked
I have three quotes at very different prices. How do I compare them?
Convert each to deliverable counts and a cost per unit. Quotes of QAR 1,500, 4,000 and 9,000 for the same brief usually turn out to be a report, a part-time junior and a real programme. Send all three the same blank table and ask them to fill it in. The comparison then makes itself, and the ones who refuse have told you something too.
I am checking a specific agency. What should I look for?
The seven questions, applied to them. Reputation in this market runs on word of mouth and brand recall rather than published evidence, so a familiar name is a signal about their marketing rather than their delivery. Judge the answers on deliverables, named people, reporting and exit terms.
Is a local agency better than a remote one?
For anything needing a Qatar commercial registration, Arabic delivery or meetings in person, yes, clearly. For the search work itself, location matters far less than seniority and accountability. Decide which of those your situation actually requires, then buy that.
What if I have already signed a twelve-month contract?
Read the termination clause, then check who owns the accounts. Many of these contracts are more escapable than they appear, particularly where deliverables were specified in writing and not delivered. An hour with a lawyer beats another six invoices.
Nobody in my category seems to be doing SEO. Is that an opportunity or a warning?
Usually a warning. Check the search volume before assuming the market is asleep, because some Qatar categories carry almost no monthly demand and your competitors have already learnt that. A provider who will not check this before quoting is selling a retainer rather than a result.
If you want a second opinion
Send the proposal you are weighing up, name removed if you prefer, through the audit form. You get a straight read on whether the deliverables are reasonable for the money, at no charge and nothing expected back.
That is useful even when you go on to sign with them, which is more or less the point of this page.
